Communication Skills

Individuals really need to work on their communication skills to give themselves an edge in the business world. According to Forbes magazine writer Susan Adams grammar plays an important role in the work place.  Communication skills in the work place are always important no matter the career they are in. My communication skills at the moment are lacking in some areas. The best thing they can do is to work to improve them and get ahead of everyone else.

According to Forbes magazine writer Susan Adams grammar plays an important role in the work place. Most employers are fed up with nonbusiness like language in the office. Using good language can prove you are smarter, organized and more likely to master more difficult tasks.(Susan) CEO of Ifixit and Dozuki Kyle Weins will not hire anyone with bad grammar. He believes that it does not reflect well on the business and makes them seem unintelligent. It takes away person creditability when they have bad grammar and not a good thing to do while on the job. A person who has good grammar is more often not going to make small mistakes.(Weins)

Communication skills in the work place are always important no matter the career they are in. The career I want to pursue is an agent and business manager for artists, performer, or athletes. In this career it is mostly just communicating with other people, so it is really important to have good communication skills. Some of these skills include negotiating, persuasion, and active listening.  I will be required to call various clients and email or communicate with something not always face-to-face. Since these are not face-to-face communication you need to be exact, not confusing and with good grammar throughout the communication. Most every person you are talking to you do not want to give them a reason for not liking you so you always should keep your grammar in check. You can see in the business world that no matter who you are you need some minimum communication skills to stay or get promoted in your job.

My communication skills at the moment are lacking in some areas. Most of my lack of communication is with grammar so I know what I need to fix and get better at. This class is also going to help with putting all that I learn into practice. Just in my day to day life I run into a lot of conflict and negotiating is how I get out of a lot of it, so I can say I have numerous times I can practice that. Another area I am struggling in would be active listening. I have ADHD so it is sometimes hard to focus on what others have to say, but I am getting better at paying attention. I have been learning different techniques to stay engaged with the speaker and how to make sure they know I am listening.

In any career Individuals will need communication skills. The trick is figuring out what they are and perfecting those skills. The better they are at communicating the better chance they have at promotion or getting a new position. If they do not have these skills it will be hard to go anywhere in their life.
